IDEAL WEEK-END CONDITIONS. ' Ideal weather was enjoyed in Ashburton during the week-end, the rather threatening condition on Saturday afternoon and night< when one point of rain fell, giving Way to a brilliantly fine morning yesterday. A light north-west wind yesterday took the temperature up to 70 degrees, the warmest since April 11, when 72.7 degrees were rcoerded. The temperature dropped suddenly, and the lowest reading was 37.9 degrees. The grass thermometer recorded 4 degrees of frost. The maximum temperature on Saturday was 50 degrees, the thermometer reading falling to 37.5 degrees in the night. One degree of frost was recorded yesterday morning. The barometer stood at 29.21 degrees and 29.45 degrees yesterday and this morning respectively. TO-DAY’S FORECAST. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather:— General inference: Pressure remains relatively high in northern latitudes, but a slight depression is situated to the west of the Auckland Peninsula and a series of westerly depressions continues to pass in the south. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows: — Light to moderate north-westerly to westerly winds freshening at times; weather mainly fair, but with occasional scattered and mainly light rain. Temperatures moderate to mild. Seas slight te moderate.
