CYCLE PARKING.

RIDERS GIVEN WARNING. Action -was begun by the authorities yesterday afternoon to prevent bicycles being parked in certain sections of the business area, in Ashburton. This step was taken in view of the increasing problem presented by cycle parking in recent months, for many local residents and shop assistants have for years indulged in the habit of parking their machines along building frontages, in Burnett Street particularly; and in some places an obstruction has been formed on the footpath by the stacks of bicycles. The Ashburton Borough Inspector (Mr J. R. Richardson) warned numbers qf people last evening that the police would take possession of their machines if the practice continued. At one yesterday afternoon more than- 80 bicycles were parked in little more than 20 yards of this locality, and thus encroached several feet on the footpath.
