CRICKET.
THE NEW ZEALAND TEAM. COMMENT BY A SELECTOR. AUCKLAND, February 25. The New Zealand cricket team was a well-balanced side, said Mr N. C. Snedden, one of the selectors, on his return to-day. The players chosen were expected to do well under English conditions. The batting was outstanding, and the side was definitely stronger than other New Zealand teams which had gono to England. Ho expressed the opinior that few Eng-
1 isix county sides would beat- the team in a three days’ match because of the batting strength. He considered the team would rise to expectations in fielding. With the possible exception of Merritt, the bowling was equal te the standard of the previous teams. The selectors had consittered that it would bo suicidal to send a team without a spin right-hand bowler, and for that reason Griffiths had been selected. Unfortunately, some good players had to be left behind.
