LIQUOR AT DANCES.

CONDITIONS IN WELLINGTON. WOMEN APPROACH COUNCIL. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. What they described as the evil of drinking at public dance halls <tnd in parked cars outside them took a deputation of women to a meeting of the Wellington City Council to ask for the tightening up of conditions for the licensing of halls. One speaker said that the problem of liquor and the parked car was linked with the story of unwanted children, whose fathers often could not be found. The Mayor (Mr T. C. A. Hislop) said the question was one of extreme importance to the community, but there were difficulties in the way of its solution. Mr P. M. Butler (a member of the Council) contended that there was nothing to get into a panic over. The young people of Wellington to-day were as well conducted as were those of 50 or 60 years agoi. The Council should show a little understanding of the rising generation. The Mayor said he did not think anything that had been said could be interpreted, as meaning that the present generation w.as a degenerate one. Rather the reverse was the case. However, care should be taken by the civic authorities to see there were no evils in the conduct of dances in public halls, either through drinking in cars or any other source. The By-laws Committee would carefully consider the matter.
