QUESTION OF AIRPORT
THE CHRISTCHURCH PROPOSALS GOVERNMENT CONTROL , accepted. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The proposal to build a municipal airport for Christchurch at Harewood has been merged with the scheme to provide a national aerodrome on a selected site.'The Mayor (Mr J. W. Beanland) said to-day that the city was bound to purchase the Harewood area for £7OOO, and it was agreed that this would be a fair contribution to make toward a national aerodrome, which would serve the city’s interests just as well as a municipal-controlled airport. The city was prepared to hand oyer full control to the Government and allow it the use of the land and to take the whole of the revenue.
