WOMEN’S DOMINION TOURNEY. THE SEMI-FINALS REACHED. BLENHEIM, September 3. Sectional play in the Dominion women’s hockey tournament was completed to-day in favourable weather. Section winners are: A, Otago; R, Canterbury: C, Eastern Southland. Considerable interest wa9 aroused in Section A by the defeat of Marlborough B yesterday by Otago. Hiad Otago been beaten to-day or its game been drawn, Marlborough B had a chance of winning the section. The winners of the B and C sections had easy victories. Otago, Canterbury, and Eastern Southland were the semi-finalists at Dannevirke in 1933. Results:

{Special to the “ Guardian.”) BLENHEIM, September 3. In the Ashburton-Southland match, E. Anderson replaced B. Brand, in the Ashburton team. The game was even, but Ashburton lacked accuracy in the circle. A. Loach again played superbly, and E. Anderson was always prominent. The Southland defence was good. The first score came soon after the commencement, following a free hit for Southland, J. Bewcastle netting from a scramble in front of the goal. Southland 1 Ashburton 0 Play continued fast and both sets of backs got plenty to do. Neither side, however, could get past the defence, although several times Ashbua - to|i had opportunities to score, but failed to find the net. F. Gudsell made some good runs to the circle, but the shots at goal were stopped. The first half ended with the score unchanged. On resuming, Southland attacked strongly and A. Loach repeatedly saved, sending the wings away. From a rollin near mid-field, play went to the Ashburton circle, where J. Bewcastle scored.

Southland 2 Ashburton 1 A free hit was awarded to Southland near the Ashburton circle and A. Loach cleared, play going back to the Southland goal. Southland were not to be denied and carried play to the Ashburton circle with a good passing rush by their forwards, and J. Bewcastle scored her third goal. 'Southland 3 Ashburton 1 From then on play was fast and even but there was no further score when the whistle sounded.

A TRIP ON THE SOUND. ASHBURTONIANS’ ENJOYABLE OUTING. '(Special to the “Guardian.”) BLENHEIM, September 3. The Ashburton team had a bye yesterday and took advantage of the opportunity to see a. little of the surrounding district. A trip by ’bus. was made to Picton, and the . 18-mile journey on a winding road with fine views was greatly enjoyed. By the courtesy of Mr Gordon Davies the party enjoyed a motor launch cruise on the Sound. Mr Davies accompanied the team to Torea, a small landing place in one of the many beautiful inlets of the Sound. Hero he landed to go

overland, to Pelorus Sound, but before be went Mr Bishop, on behalf of the team, asked him to accept a small present as a small mark of appreciation of his kind thought. In the evening a pleasant social evening was spent at the “Regent” tea-rooms, where the team entertained the hosts and hostesses who had billeted members. Also present were the managers and chaperones of a number of other visiting teams. Mr Bishop (manager of the Ashburton team) expressed thanks and appreciation for the hospitality provided by the hosts and hostesses. Mr Girling, replying on behalf of the hosts and hostesses, said they had got much pleasure from the entertainment of those billeted with them. Mr Bishop also thanked the local manager of the team, Mr Fairhall (Blenheim) who had spared no trouble to make things pleasant for the team.

TEAMS TO PLAY CANTERBURY. ALTERATIONS IN B SIDE. Advice having been received that W. Page and J. Mulland are not available to play in the Ashburton B team against Canterbury on Saturday next, the selector (Mr E. M. Gabites) has replaced them with A. Stewart and C. Wilson. J. Smith (Wakanui) has been selected as emergency goal-keeper.
