LATE MR MITCHELL.
ONE-TIME ASHBURTON RESIDENT IN CHARGE OF BAPTIST CHURCH. Mr Clifford Mitchell, who is reported to have been killed by natives in Abysginia, was the son of Air and Mrs F. J. Mitchell, Blockhouse Bay, Auckland.
He was born at Frith, Kent, about 30 years ago, and was educated at Picardy Higher Grade School and at Wayby School, North Auckland. H!e passed through the Auckland Bible Training Institute, and was pastor of the Ashburton Baptist Church from June 1, 1929, to December 31, 1930. He left for Abyssinia in March, 1931, and had been there ever since, serving in the Ethiopian Mission. Air Mitchell married Aliss Alyrtle E. Jenkins, a missionary from Invercargill, in Addis Ababa, four yearg ago. Other members of the family are a brother, the Rev. J. L. Mitchell, a Alethodist minister at Rotorua, a sister, Airs E. Al. Bfaikloek, and a brother, Mr James Mitchell, of Auckland.
Mr Mitchell was due to go on furlough, and till news of his death was received yesterday, his Ashburton friends believed he was on his way to New Zealand.
