GOLF.
THE METHVEN CLUB. The Methven Ladies’ Golf Club played the second round of the Campbell trophy competition on the Mount Harding links, and in conjunction a Ladies’ Golf Union medal match was played. The best cards were:—Mrs M. Stone 71 net, Miss May Campbell 80 net, Mrs K. Aitken 81 net. On Saturday a bogey match oyer 18 holes was played, the winner being Mrs M. Stone with 8 down. The usual mid-week match over 12 holes was played on Tuesday, in ideal weather. The best scores were:—Mrs A. Adam 46 net, Mrs M. Stone 48 net, Mrs S. M. Jackman 50 net.
METHVEN BEATS RAKAIA.
The Methven Golf Club played a match against Itakaia Club at Mount Harding links, Methven, during the week-end. The match was played under ideal conditions, and resulted in a win for the home team by 16 to 2. Results are as follows, Methven names first in each instance: — Men—Singles: R. M. Christie halved with P. J. Hanrahan, P. A. Watson beat It. 13. Knight, R. G. Wallace beat It. A. Oakley, Geo. Waddington lost to G. MeAnulty, A. D. Norris beat H. A. Harrison, A. R. Gourley beat T. A. Richards, C. C. Winn beat Hi C. Nelson, L. A. Watson beat W. K. Esson.
Women—Singles: Miss O. Holmes beat Mrs Richards, Miss Waddington beat Mrs Nelson, Miss M. Stone beat Miss G. Harrison, Mrs A. Adams beat Mrs Blackley. Four-ball —D. M. Christie and P. A. Watson beat P. J. Hanrahan and R. B. Knight, D. G. Wallace and S. Waddington beat R.. A. Oakley and G. McAnulty, A. D. Norris and A. R. Gourley beat H. A. Harrison and T. A. Richards, C. C. Winn and L. A. Watson beat W. K. Esson and H. C. Nelson, Miss R. Waddington and Miss M. Stone halved with Mrs Nelson and Miss G. Harrison, Mrs A. Adams beat Mrs Blackley. Mr D. M. Christie presided at a special meeting of the committee on Tuesday evening, when arrangements were made for the club’s annual ball on September 3 in the Town Hall.
