MRS WILLS-MOODY RETIRING.
United Press Association—Copyright; SAN FRANCISCO, July 27. Mrs Helen Wills-Moody has announced that she has withdrawn from the forthcoming national tennis championships, and indicated that she would probably never again compete in major tournaments, such as those at Wimbledon and Forest Hills. She said she wishes to devote more time to her career as a designer.
AUSTRALIANS’ GALLANT RECOVERY.
LONDON, July 27. Newspapers pay tribute to the Australians’ gallant recovery in the fourth set of the doubles, especially in view of their misfortunes on Saturday. The “Daily Sketch” regards Quist as the greatest doubles player in the world. He made an opening which paralysed the British players, but the most amazing feature of the match was 'Dickey, who until he lost his service in the fourth set, dropped only seven points in nine services—probably a Davis Cup record.
