In a rather uninteresting game play—ed at Methven, Methven beat Technical Old Boys by six points to three. Methven was the first to open its scor—ing account? from loose play in Technical Old Boys territory. The backs got possession and all handled in turn to J. Lilley on the wing, who outclassed all opposition and after crossing the line near the corner ran round to score behind the posts. The kick at goal was not successful. ‘Methveu kept the game under control and play was conecl mostly to the territory of Techni—cal Old Boys. Get-ting possession from a scrum in the Technical Old Boys twenty-five the Methven backs again handled in an impressive manner and the movement ended in another score by Lilley. 1n the second half Technical Old Boys produced a more vigorous attack, and were within an ace of scoring on sever—al occasions. It was from one of these movements, which took place early in the. second spell, that R. Vnrcoe was given an opportunity at a penalty when Methven infringed the rules in handy position. The kick succeeded making the score Methven 6. Technical Old Boys three. Technical Old Boys launched several other attacks, but failed to cross the line. The mainstays of the Methven team were the three Lilley brothers, who were well supported by Cleove. Mr A. A. Cox was the referee. Rakaia (18) v. Old Bays (3). , llakaia showed surprising form with the. hacks and forwards both playing well up to form in the match against Old Boys. Many of Old Boys’ hack movements were! broken up by tho Ba—kaia forwards, who broke up smartly from the serum. J. O’Connor was undoubtedly the best back on the ground and worked well. For the remainder of the spell both sides fought hard, but at half—time the score remained at 34111, In the second half Rakaia. forwards continued to attack, and from a set scrum all the backs handled for Ironside to score. N. Douglas scored for Rakaia and converted his own try. Mr C. Stevenson was referee. The match between Technical Old Boys and Methven B resulted in a'dmw each side scoring eleven points. For Technical tries were scored by N. Jones, A. McCall, and A. Hioughton, one being converted by L. Kerr. For Methven tries were secured by A. Dol— R. Patterson and H. Adams, and H. Reid converted one. Mr A. Shannon was referee.

Hinds had a runaway victory oyer "Springburn at Hinds, winning by 44 points to nil. Mr o’. H. Miller was referee. Methven A and Old Boys, who have lost only one match to date in the junior competition, met at Methven on Saturday: when Methven A won by 13 points to nil. W. Reuse and G. Weilly each obtained one try, while T. Sullivan kicked a field goal and J. Mclntosh obtained a penalty goal. Mr S. Alex-i ander was the referee. i THIRD GRADE. Muir kicked a penaltygoal. Mr L. Hadley was referee. Hinds defaulted to Allenton. FOURTH GRADE. Methven secured a. runaway victory over Allenton by 23 points to nil in a match at the Showgrounds. Mr \V. Stephens was referee. In the match High School B v. Technical, High School B won by 14 points to three. All the 'points for the winners were secured by T. Sampson, and R. Manson scored a try for Technical. er J. MacMillan was referee.

. At a Special meeting of the Nor—thern \Vairozt Rugby Referees’ Association last night, three referees tendered. their resignations and walked out of the meeting. The meeting had been called for the purpose of discuss—ing the attitude adopted by the Nor—thern Vv’airoa. Rugby Union over the ordering off of a. spectator during the progress of a match a fortnight ago. The referee- repo-rtedithe matter to the uniion, which decided to call the spectator to give. his version. A sub—‘ sequent meeting of the union, after? hearing the spectator’s denial, which was supported by two members of the union, that he called. the referee an offensive name and suggested that the irefere should be wearing one team’s l jersey, the union took no action. After a long discussion last night the referees decided to send a deputa—tion to the union,‘this resulting in the resignation of Messrs Vennell, Hough—ton and Parore, who considered that the union should :have backed up the referee. Mr Vennell was the referee concerned in the ordering-off incident.
