RESULT OF CAR COLLISION. MOTORIST SERIOUSLY INJURED. GLASS PENETRATES BRAIN. (Per Press Association.l WHANGARET, April 14. Alexander Alain, 20-year-old son of the manager of the AVaiteroata Powei Board, was admitted to hospital yesterday afternoon suffering from shock as a result of a motor-car collision on the AVaipu road. He was. bleeding freely from the hea r l, but his condition was not thougnt to be serious. When he was put under the anaesthetic t§-day, it was discovered that a piece of glass had penetrated the brain. The glass was removed, but Alain is dangerously ill. BODY FLOATING IN THE SEA- , WELLINGTON, April 14. The body of a man floating about six miles east of Tory Channel was sighted last evening from the Wellington launch Viking, when she was returning from an Easter cruise to the sounds. The body was that of a man floating face upwards. It looked as though it had been in the water some time. Mr C. S. Headland, owner of the launch, said the body could not be taken aboard owing to the state of the weather. The launch- reached Evans Bay anchorage this morning after having been delayed by fog at the heads. It is surmised that the body either came from a ship, or had been carried down the Wairau River. INQUEST AT WELLINGTON. WELLINGTON, This Day. That death was due to toxaemia resulting from a compound fracture of the arm, caused in a collision, was the verdict of the 'Coroner at an inquest concerning the death of Alfred Fermin. The Coroner said it was quite clear that deceased was taking up too much of the road and that the collision was due to no fault of the driver of the lorry which struck the car. Deceased was admitted, to hospital •on January 23 and died eight days later. The accident occurred at Silverstream. death from poisoning. AVELLINGTON, This Day. At an inquest to-day concerning the death of Stanley Alervyn Massey, Constable Stewart gave evidence that Alasscy went up to him on the Trentham racecourse on Ain roll 16 and asked where he could find a doctor. Witness directed him to Dr. Sternberg’s residence. Later lie" saw Alassey outside the main gates of the racecourse, standing in a perplexed attitude. He was at first reticent, but afterwards told witness that he had taken a fatal dose of poison, and that he was tired of life. Alassey was taken to the doctor’s residence and later removed to the hospital. Evidence was also given that deceased had attempted to commit suicide several times. The verdict was that death was due to the effects of poison, self-adminis-tered.

FATAL FALL FROM LADDER. AUCKLAND, April 14. Mir Isaac McClelland, a widower, aged 60, while painting a dwelling on the waterfront at Devonport, fell from a ladder and was killed. The body of Mr James Thomas Dillon was found in the Wairoa river near the town wharf on Sunday afternoon. He was 40 years of age, and married. There are no children.
