WESTERN SAMOA.

PREMIER’S MESSAGETO NATIVES (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, April 14. The Prime Minister (the Hon M. JSavage) has forwarded the following message to the people of Western Samoa through the aeting-Adminisitra-tor (Mr A. C. Turnbull): — “The present Government or New Zealand has one object alone in connection with Western; Samoa, and that is to obtain the goodwill of the whole Samoan people and their complete cooperation with us for their common good, and, for the preservation of all that is best in Samoan ideals and methods of government, in just the same way as in New Zealand. “The Government is at present very much occupied with matters urgently requiring attention in New Zealand, but we intend within the next three months to send a representative of the Government —probably a Minister—-to Samoa, with the object of ascertaining the best possible method ol improving the relations of Samoans with each otliei“ with the administration of Western Samoa, and with the New Zealand Government and people. “We believe that any attempt at the present time to revive or intensify the differences that have so unhappily divided the Samoan people would be entirely mischievous, and we most earnestly hope that both before and after the visit all sections of Samoans will do all that is possible to enable the New Zealand Government and administration, in oar future work for the happiness and well-being of all Samoa. “We believe that the return of Mr 0. F. Nelson will be taken as evidence of our intention to secure the co-oper-ation of all sections of- Samoan people, and we feel that Mr Nelson will be able and willing to assist materially in this object. He has accordingly been informed that -,ve will be prepared to facilitate his return to the territory within the next four months on the same terms as would govern the return of a New Zealand citizen to tliis Dominion.”
