BAND CONTEST.
THE PROVINCIAL FIXTURE. jtfAY BE HELD IN ASHBURTON. There is a strong possibility that the Canterbury band contest will be held in Ashburton in October. The matter was discussed at a meeting of the Canterbury Provincial Bands’ Association in Christchurch last evening, when Mr E. Hopwood and Mr L, Porter presented the Ashburton Silver Band’s application for the contest. It was decided that if the Dominion contest for 1937, for which Christchurch and Nelson have applied, were allotted to Christchurch, Ashburton would be given the provincial contest. Otherwise the provincial contest would be held in Christchurch. The decision of the New Zealand Brass Bands’ Association concerning the Dominion contest will be known after a meeting on February 28.
