BRITAIN’S DEFENCE
TREASURY OPPOSES A LOAN. DURING THIS YEAR AT LEAST. FINANCE BY MEANS OF BILLS. (United Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.55 a.m.) LONDON, Feb. 6. Tho political correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” says that the Treasury is opposed to the flotation of a loan to finance the Government's■ defence programme. It considers the work can be adequately financed by means of Treasury Bills without heavy additional expenditure, at least during the current financial year. The Cabinet next week will consider the finalised plans for the Ministerial Committee investigating the requirements of the three services. The estimates of the total cost of the defence schemes range from £150,000,000 to £250,000,000.
