MINISTERS ON TOUR.
DEPUTATIONS ON WEST COAST.
(Per Press Association.) WESTPORT, January 14. The Hon. P. C. Webb (Minister of Mines) visited Benniston, Burnett's Face, Millerton, Stockton and Hector, accompanied by representatives of local bodies, and was enthusiastically received everywhere, the band turning out at Hector. Numerous deputations interviewed the Minister, mainly on local matters. The Hon. R. 'Semple (Minister oJ Public Works) visited Karamea, where he was accorded a civ jo reception. Messrs W. R. Simpson and K. J. Holyoakei, M.P., were the principal speakers. A deputation was received concerning labour and road improvements to prevent erosion which, from time to time since the big earthquake in 1919, has caused heavy losses of land and stock. Mr Holyoake urged that the earthquake, being a national catastrophe, the cost of the necessary work should' be provided for from the national purse. Another deputation consisting ot Mr Flowers (chairman of the Colliugwcod County Council) and Mr Ferguson, urged the completion of the road through to Bainham. The Minister gave the deputations a sympathetichearing. To-night both Ministers were the guests of the Westport Labour Party at a social gathering.
