THREE NEW; COMMODITIES. EXPERIMENTAL SHIPMENTS. to the "Guardian.") WELLINGTON, January 10. Details of recent experimental shipments from New Zealand for testing out the possibilities of new avenues of trade were referred to by the Minister for Industries and Commerce (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan) 'in an interview tonight. Mr Sullivan said that apart from ordinary routine experimental shipments of fruit and butter, and produce of various types, three interesting shipments had been made at the commencement of the year which were specially carried by the courtesy of one of the shipping companies. A shipment of asparagus bad been forwarded to London, in the hope that sufficient information would, arise from the shipment, and from previous experiments, to enable successful shipments to be made next season.

Another interesting shipment was a ton of eels, which were being forwarded to a research station in Britain for an estimation of the vitamin and other properties of body and liver oils, etc. interesting results regarding particular vitamins in eels had been obtained by Mrs Cunningham, wife of Dr. G. H. Cunningham, working at the Wallaeerillo Laboratory. A further shipment of considerable interest was a ton of pancreas sweetbreads, which had been shipped to a large firm in Great Britain for extraction of insulin. This was to make possible experiments to determine insulin content of the pancreas from lambs of various breeds, and from various districts.
