INCREASE IN REVENUE.
GENERAL MANAGER'S REVIEW.
(Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, January 6. The General Manager of Railways (Mr G. H. Mackley) announced to-day on behalf of the Government and the Railways Board the financial results of railway working for the four-weekly period which ended on December 7. The gross revenue was £535,639, an incease of £44,051 compared with the corresponding period of the previous year. The expenditure for the period was £458,269, an increase of £'27,424 over last year. These figures include the increased expenditure involved in the 1\ per cent, increase in salaries and wages. For the nine four-weekly periods of the current financial year, to December 7, the total revenue amounted to £4,429,411, as against £4,210,849 for the same period last year, giving an increase of £218,571 in revenue account. Working expenses for the year to date amounted to : £3,997,890, as against £3,801,681 for last year, an increase of £196,209. After absorbing expenditure caused by the increase in salaries and wages, the net revenue to date as compared with last year shows an increase of £22,362.
