OBITUARY.
MR H. ANDERTON. Mr Henry Anderton, of 206 Chalmers Avenue, Ashburton, died early this morning at Hakatere. Mr Anderton was in fairly good health last evening, but became ill suddenly about 4 a.m., dying two hours later. He was a shift engineer at the Fairfield Freezing Works. Taking a keen interest in angling, Mr Anderton was an active member of the Ashburton Acclimatisation Society. Ho was a vice-president of the East Ashburton Swimming Club. Mr Anderton is survived by his wife and four daughters, Mrs C'. W. Shearman, Mrs W.. Holland, Miss I. Anderton and Miss J.. Anderton. MISS E. M. CULVERWELL. TIMARU, This Day. Miss E. M. Culvenvell, borough librarian for 22 years, who resigned last month on account of ill-health, is dead. MR ALFRED REID. * HASTINGS, January 2. The death has occurred of Mr Allred Reid, who was for many years auctioneer for Messrs Williams and Kettle, and was one of the best known personalities among the farmers, stockdealers and sportsmen •in Hawke’s Bay. He was born in October, 1851, in the Wanganui district, where his father owned the farm afterwards known as “Fordell.” On the death of his father, Mr Reid pioneered in Taranaki and came to Hawke’s Bay in 1890, subsequently joining the firm of Messrs Williams and Kettle. He was an active member of the Jockey Club and the Agricultural and Pastoral Society and a great lover of hurdle horses. He is survived by his wife, who is a daughter of the late Major Dime, for many years resident magistrate in Wanganui.
