BOXING.
OPEN-AIR CARNIVAL IN SYDNEY. RAIN SPOILS THE BOUTS. SYDNEY, December 27. An outdoor boxing carnival, with two championships and an international contest at stake, was marred fey steady rain at the Sports Ground
last night. The rain unexpectedly began when 20,000 spectators were comfortably seated, and drenched all. The boxers often lost their foothold. The referees’ dinner jackets and the women’s frocks were soaked. A laughable incident occurred when the large electric globe above the ring exploded, fragments of glass falling all over the ring.
