The biennial conference of representatives of Cricket Associations to-day expressed disapproval of' a proposal by the Auckland Association that the voting power of each, of the two delegates from each major Association should he increased from two to three. The proposal will again come before the Council at the annual meeting tomorrow evening. With one exception the minor Associations, which have one vote each, were against the alteration and as a three-fifths majority is necessary to alter the rules, it is not likely that the proposal will be carried. Auckland’s proposal to fix the number of selectors of New Zealand cricket teams at four, one from each major Association, instead of allowing the Management Committee a free hand in the appointment of a selector or selectors, did not find support. The motion was lost by a considerable majority. Several proposed changes m the Hawke Cup rules were dispussed. It was decided to delete the clause in the rules providing for a birth qualification for players. It was argued that it was not desirable that Plunket Shield players should play in the Hawke Cup competition on a birth qualification. A proposal to exclude overseas professionals from Hawke Cup matches was rejected. A suggested reversion to the practice of playing Hawke Cup matches to a finish without a time limit was not accepted.

FASTEST CENTURY. , 1 GIMBLETT WINS LAWRENCE TROPHY. To Harold Gimblett, the “boy” player of Somerset, goes the distinction of being the fastest maker of a century in first-class cricket in England last season. His feat on May 18 last, when he clouted the Essex bowlers for a hundred in 68 minutes, remained unsurpassed, and this 20-year-old therefore collects the silver trophy offered by Sir Walter- Lawrence. He also gets an order on a London store for 100 guineas, and to those who might deprecate such things I would say (states a London writer) that it is the Gimbletts and the Wellards of cricket who earn the everlasting thanks of the faithful ones round the ring.
