SLIP ON WEST COAST

THE MAIN ROAD BLOCKED. (Per Press Association). GREYMGUTH, October- 18. A fall of 10,000 tons of rock blocked the Greymouth-Westport road at 3.40 p.m. at Ten Mile Horseshoe bend. A chain of road, also the Brady colliery binns, with 100 tons of coal, were swept into a creek, but the Briandale Collieries binns road bridge escaped.

A motor cyclist just cleared the bridge. Hie Blind Institute Band afterwards arrived, walking barefoot oyer the creek.

Rain may cause a fresh slip. The original cause was probably vibration caused by the colliery locomotive. Large rocks still threaten to fall, and the sea has been eroding the road nearby. The Grey County Engineer (Mr Higgins) hopes to restore the road tomorrow, when service buses will continue running. The damage is at least £IOOO, apart from the road.
