TENNIS.
THE MAYFIELD CLUB. The Mayfield Tennis Club held its opening day on Saturday afternoon. Although the weather was not ideal there was a large attendance, including visitors from the Runpuna and. An am a clubs. The captain (Mr R. J. Doonan) welcomed the visitors and new members. The patron (the Rev. A D. Kirkland) declared the courts open and wished the club every success in the coming season. The president (Mr R. Oakley) endorsed Mr Kirkland’s remarks and mentioned the improved condition of the courts as a result of the topdressing. Afternoon tea was handed round by members of the club. Friendly games were played.
THE RAKAIA CLUB'S OPENING The official opening of the Rakaia Tennis Club was held on Saturday afternoon. There was a large attendance of members and friends and visitors from the Dorie and Chertsey clubs. The captain (Mr C. J. Ryan) welcomed all present and referred with regret to the death of the club’s patron, Mr J. Connolly, M.P. The Rev. D. B. Ashford congratulated the club on having such a good membership, and wished the club every success. The Rev. J. W. Knights also wished the club success and declared the season open. A “Yankee” tournament was won by Miss Jean Henderson and Mr D. Harrison.
