MR ALLAN LEONARD MUIR.
(Per Press Association). ' GISBORNE, This Day,
Mr Allan Leonard Muir, for half a century associated with the “Poverty Bay Herald,” died this morning, after three months’ illness. He was editor for 21 years. Mr Muir, who was a son of Mr A. R. Muir, a journalist and grandson of Mr James Muir, founder of the early Wellington newspaper “Independent,” was born in Wellington in 1871. He was educated at Nelson College and became editor of the “Poverty Bay Herald” in 1896, and managing-director in 1914. He was a director of the New Zealand Press Association since 1926 and chairman of Section 2of the Newspaper Proprietors’ Association since 1929.
