ACCIDENTS & DEATHS
YOUNG WOMAN DROWNED. (Per Press Association). DUNEDIN, October 1. Miss Laura Joyce Richardson, 19 years of age, who had been staying with Mr R. Green, a basketmaker, of Wianakarua, for the last four years, was accidentally drowned in a mill dam near the Pbcenix mill, Waianakarua, this afternoon.
Miss Richardson left home on a bicycle at 2 o’clock and went to the dam to cut osier willows lor basketmaking. After taking off her shoes and mittens, she apparently sat on the bank and overbalanced into the pool, which at that point was deep. The .undercurrent carried her down about a chain, where her body was later seen lying face down on the bottom of the river.
As she had not returned by 4 o’clock a search was made, and a motorist from Auckland, who did not give his name, dived 1 in and recovered the body.
