FOOTBALL.

THE MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. The Management* Committee of the Ashburton Rugby Union held its final meeting for the season last evening, when the president (Mr J. C. C. McLaehlan) presided. The president reported that the Ashburton Agricultural and 1 Pastoral Association had agreed to accept £lO as the lental of the Showgrounds tor the last season.

A financial ■ statement presented by the secretary showed that the union had almost balanced , its budget for the season.

It was decided to write asking the clubs whose teams had won at the recent seven-a-side tournament if they would forego the medals which had been promised, to assist the union’s finances.

It was agreed to write congratulating the Otago Rugby Union upon winning the Ranfurly Shield. The president thanked members for the interest they had taken in the affairs of the union during the year. He said some scheme should be devised to supplement the funds next season. “Some of us are dropping out next year, and I hop© the younger members will maintain their interest,” he said. The president was accorded a vote of thanks for the able maimer in which he had conducted the meetings. A reduction in the number of dims in the town was advocated by Mr H. Porter, who said competition would be more keen if there were fewer clubs, and more enthusiasm would be shown by tlio players.

THE NORTH TEAM SELECTED. WELLINGTON, September 23. The North Island Rugby team, selected by Mr E. McKenzie, is as follows: — Full-back: Bush (Auckland). Three-quarters: Apsey (Hawke s Bay), Campbell (Wanganui), and C. Smith (Hawke’s Bay). Five-eighths: Baldwin (Wellington) and Le Quesne (Hawke’s Bay). Half-back: Kilby (Wellington). Forwards: Rowe (Thames Valley), G. Harrison (Taranaki), Fraser-Smith (Wellington), Anderson (Auckland), Leeson (Waikato), Gargan (Taranaki),, and Jackson (Hawke’s Bay). Emergencies: Pollock (Wellington) and Hall (Wellington).

BANKS IN ANNUAL MATCH. Playing at Christchurch yesterday, the Christchurch Banks defeated the Wellington Banks by 21 points to 3 for the Fow Shield. The Christchurch team included Messrs J. L. Partridge, G. d’Auvergne and F. Sot ham, of Ashburton.

ABERTILLERY AND CROSS KEYS.

The All Blacks are planned to meet Abertilleiy and Cross Keys, at Abertillery, to-morrow. This fixture was not included in the 1906 or 1934 tours. The Cross Keys team is drawn from the area including Monmouthshire, on the Welsh border. As Rugby has received a great fillip in this area in lecent years, it should prove an interesting fixture. The loss of the services (temporarily) of Hadley, the mam scrum hooker for the All Blacks, vri be apparent, but this match, which precedes the invasion of Wales, opens an opportunity to firmly establish the front rank forwards.
