AVONDALE JOCKEY CLUB. HERITAGE WINS GUINEAS. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Sept. 23. Ttlie Avondale Jockey Club's spring meeting was conciucieu to-day in nue weather. The track was m good orcl*r and there was a satisfactory attendance. The totalise tor handled £18,483, compared with £11,444 on the corresponding day last year, an increase ol £7009. The total lor the meeting was £42,587, against £31,540 last year, an increase of £11,041. Tin imp gained a surprise victory as twelfth favourite in the Mount Albert Handicap, returning more than a double-score dividend.

AUCKLAND, September 23. The New Zealand Trotting Association has appointed Mr A. Tronson handicapper for North Island meetings.

METHVEN TROTTING CLUB,

DECISIONS OF THE COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the committee of the Methven Trotting Club was held last evening. There were present: Messrs T. S. Harrison (chairman), J. Campbell, J. McOloy, H. Green, R. Millar, CL Goodwin, L. L. Richards, G. Kelly, S. G. Holmes and J. H. McKendry. A motion of sympathy was passed to Messrs G. Waddington and A. McLeod owing to bereavement in their families. The New Zealand Trotting Association advised that Mr J. Beer had been appointed stipendiary steward for the meeting to be held on Saturday, October 5.

The Traffic Manager, New Zealand Railways, advised as to train arrangements.

The South Canterbury Jockey Club wrote advising the' adoption of the Southland system for collection of nominations, acceptance and riding fees prior to any liorse starting in any race. It was decided to fall into line with the other clubs, and to advise owners and trainers accordingly. Mr A. E. Wilson forwarded a goldmounted whip and Mr V. Comaga (on behalf of Messrs John Dewar and* Sons) a canteen of cutlery, both of which will be allottedTo the driver the cup and owner of the Avinner of- the same race, respectively. Both trophies were accepted with thanks. The following officials were appointed for race day:—Totalisatcr steward, Mr H. Green; assistant judge, Mr T. S. Harrison; bird-cage stewards, Mr G.

Kelly and Mr S'. Thompson; flag steward,’Mr L. L. Richards; blackboard steward, Mr A. R. Gourlay; jockeys’ steward, Mr C. Goodwin; patrol stewards, Messrs McCloy, McKendry, Ross and F. S. McDonald. Two members of the club were elected. The chairman extended a welcome to Mr J. Campbell after his return from Britain.

Mr Campbell, in reply, said he had much pleasure in presenting a handsome silver cup to 1 the club to use at its discretion.

It was decided to accept the cup with thanks, and to hold it over for next year.
