BOXING.

THE ASHBURTON ASSOCIATION.

A meeting of the Ashburton Boxing Association was held last evening, Mr H. D. Johnston presiding. With, reference to the Mid-Canter-bury championships, to be held on Thursday, September 5, it was decided that entries should close with the secretary on Monday. The following officials were appointed: Referees, Messrs H. D. Johnston, and H. Dillon; judges, Messrs H. McElrea, J. H. Grigg, A. N. Grigg, J. B. Cullen and J. D. Murdoch; timekeepers, Messrs F. Robilliard and O. B. Gass; announcer, Mr F. Porter; official seconds, Messrs Wellman and Stock; scales, doctors’ and competitors’ stewards: Messrs G. Brown, G. Nutbrown, H. Rainey; house steward, Mr M. Keeley; gloves steward, Mr J. W. Smith; rounds steward, Mr T. Hocking. Correspondence, was received from the New Zealand Boxing Council with reference to> the New Zaland championship meeting to be held at Dunedin early in September. It was left to the executive to draw up a remit protesting against the levy of £2 permit fee for each contest and to suggest the fee be arranged on a sliding scale so as not to unduly handicap small associations. The chairman reported on the recent visit of the boxing team to Greymouth and stated they all enjoyed the trip. The boys acquitted themselves well and but for two doubtful decisions quite held their own.
