ANDREWS WINS FIRST MATCH. (Received This Day, 10.10 a.m.) NEW YORK, August 29. E. D. Andrews (the New Zealander) easily won, his opening match at the national tennis championships at Forest Hills, defeating Frank Broida, 6-3, 6-4, 6-3. Although play was sometimes ragged Andrews displayed a hard
driving game that scored many placements. Broida was in his best form in the second set, which he carried to 4-4. but Andrews broke the service in the ninth game and won his own service in the tenth, forty love. H. W. Allison defeated Henry Bruni© (New York) 6-0, 6-2, 6-2. Both these were first round games. F. J. Perry (England) will start on Friday. Mudford-King defeated Diana Pope (Montreal), 6-0, 6-0. R. Mako defeated H. Brugnon 2-6, 6-2, 7-6, 6-1. In the first round of the women’s singles Miss K. 'Stammers (England) defeated Miss Gertrude ID aye r (New York) 6-0, 6-2. Miss Helen Jacobs beat Mrs Blumenthal (New York) 6-3, 6-4.
