MINIATURE RIFLES.

THE METHVEN CLUB. At the usual shoot of the Methven. Miniature Rifle Club the club trophy was fired for, and was won by lv. Cleeve, who registered his second ivm, thus winning tlie trophy outright, lire best scores were: R. Cleeve 66 (hep J), 66; W. Lumsden 68 (3), 66; J-Bouse, 67 (4) 65; J. E. Carr 69 (1), 67; W. Law, 66 (5), 64; C. Black, 65 (6), 64. The senior liotty button was won by M. Holland (70). Other good scores in this match were: H. Noble 68, J. Rouse 67, T. Middleton 66, W. Law 66, W. Lumsden 66. The junior hotty button match resulted: J. Mallett <O, C. Black 65, It. Cleeve 64, G. Dickson <6O Shooting has commenced for a handsome silver vase presented by Mr H. E Richards. The match is a two-shoot aggregate handicap. Following are the best scores oft the rifle to date: H. Noble 70, 70; G. Waldington 70, 67; W. Law 69, 63; N. Law 66, 64j C. Black 69; S. Hyland 68 ; J. Rouse 67 ; It, Cleeve 66. A match for the County Shield, which Methven holds, will be fired at Methven on Saturday, Mount Somers being the challengers. The following will represent Methven: —J. E. Carr (captain), H. Noble, S. Hyland, J. Rouse, W. Lumsden, W. R- Law, T. Middleton, G. Waddington, C. Black, it. Cleeve, L. Haskett and M. Holland. Emergencies: F. Mallett and N. Law.

THE MOUNT SOMERS CLUB. At an extra niglit shoot held by the Mount Somers Miniature Rifle Club on Thursday the best scores off the rifle .were: H. Morgan 79, 74; L. Hood 79, 71; K. (Dunbar 79, 78; W. Morgan 78; G. Morgan 78; Miss K. Bland /6, 72 ; G. Bland 75. • The following team was picked to shoot with Methven for the Ashburton County Shield on Saturday at Methyen: K. Dunbar, G. A. Bland, J. Gorrie, Miss K. Bland, W. Morgan, L. Hood, G. Bland, H. Morgan, H. Hood, H. Ross, F. Cornwell and G. Morgan. Arrangements have been made to hold a ball to mark the official opening of the new range on September 6.
