BRIGHT SUNSHINE AFTER RAIN The weather, which was cold and wet in Ashburton last evening, was brighter to-day, but only after a raw morning. A frost of 9.7 degrees was registered, and it was not until about 11 o’clock that the sunshine had any warmth. „

The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather: — General inference: Pressure is still low in the north and north-east, but a slight anti-cyclone covers the South Island. A fresh depression is located over the western Tasman Sea.

The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows: —

Moderate southerly winds, backing later to easterly. Weather mainly fair to cloudy, but some isolated coastal showers north of Banks Peninsula. Seas moderate to rather rough.
