BRIDE GIVES AGE AS 73.
A CEREMONY IN ASHBURTON. The marriage of Mr AVilliam Proctor Howell, aged 01 years, and Mrs Christina Lawson, aged 73 years, took place in Ashburton at 3 o’clock this afternoon, and the ceremony was witnessed by a large number of people. The service u>\s held in the Baring Square Methodist Church, and the minister was the Rev. Ronald S. AVatson, of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, who was officiating in the absence of the Rev. G. B. Hinton. Mr Howell is a well-known figure in Ashburton, where he has resided for a number of years. He resided in Dunedin in 1857, and worked there, at Oamaru and on the Central Otago goldfields for many years. Mrs Howell’s husband and two sons, one aged 10 and the other aged 13, were drowned in a wreck near Auckland. The old couple knew each other in Dunedin over 50 years ago, but their ways parted, and they did not come together again till they met in Ashburton several years ago.
