BRIGHT SUNSHINE TO-DAY. , North-westerly conditions on Saturday and yesterday morning gave place to a southerly storm during the day. A sharp shower of rain was experienced about 11 o'clock yesterday morning, and conditions were showery in the afternoon and during the night. The temperature fell considerably after the heat on Saturday. Bright sunshine prevailed to-day, and there was a mild northerly wind. The barometer is rising. At 9 o'clock this morning the reading was 29.62 inches, compared' with 29.45 inches yesterday and 29.64 inches on Saturday. Extremes of shade temperature yesterday and last night were 64.9 degrees and 42.4 degrees, and those on Saturday 78.7 degrees and 60.3 degrees. Five points of rain were registered for the 24 hours up to 9 a.m. to-day. TO-DAY'S FORECAST (Per Press Association). - WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather: — • General inference: A depression crossed the Dominion yesterday, and pressure has risen somewhat. A secondary degression is, however, located over the western Tasman Sea. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows: Moderate but freshening north-wes-terly winds. Weather fair to fine and mild. Seas rather rough offshore.
