THE ASHBURTON ASSOCIATION. POSITIONS OF THE CONTESTS. As Fairfield drew with Ashburton A and Ashburton B gained a three-point win over Rakaia in, the senior grade of the Ashburton County Cricket Association's competitions on Saturday afternoon, Ashburton B is only three points behind Fairfield. Fairfield has 33 points and Ashburton B 30, so that if Ashburton B defeats Fairfield next Saturday, a playoff will be necessary. Fairfield required one more point to make its position at the head of the contest secure.

With the exception of one match, Fairfield y. Technical, to be played on April 6, the junior competition is concluded, points being a* follow:—Kia Ora 60 points, Fairfield 50, Technical 44, Lauriston 41, High School 29, Technical 27, Methven 16 and Coldstream 10.

Junior and Colts' matches against the Christchurch Suburban Association will be played in Ashburton next Saturday.

Batsmen who scored 50 runs or more were:—J. Dillon 103 (retired), J. Varcoe 83 not out, B. Jordan 72, W. Goodwin 66, T. Hooper 50. There were many excellent bowling averages in the junior grade. Ashburton went to the crease first and declared with 197 runs on the board for the loss of six wickets. J. Varcoe, with 83 runs not out, headed the batsmen, and other double-figure scores were J. B.
