WEST COAST FIXTURE. POSITION OF COMPETITIONS. On. the occasion of the representative match on Saturday between the Ashburton County and the West Coast;, the senior grade matches in the Ashburton County Association's competitions will not be played but the junior fixtures will take place as arranged. There has been some misunderstanding in this connection. BRABIN SHIELD MATCH WIN FOR WELLINGTON. WLLINGTON, March 12. Wellington regained the Brabin Shield to-day when the junior representative team defeated Canterbury, the holders, by eight wickets at the Basin Reserve. On the first day Wellington scored 321 runs for nine wickets (declared), in reply to which Canterbury had scored 99 for the loss of seven wickets at stumps. When the match was continued today, the visitors took their first innings score to 112 and, following on, gave a much better exhibition in their second innings at the wicket, scoring 221. This left Wellington with 13 runs to score to win and this was accomplished with the loss of two wickets. B. W. Colville scored 62, a fine innings including 10 fours. GENEROUS OFFER. ENGAGEMENT OF COACH. WELLINGTON, March 12. The question of engaging a coach for next season is being considered by a special committee of the Wellington Cricket Association. It was announced last night that certain supporters would contribute £IOO if the players themselves found £2OO.
