INTER-ISLAND CABLE.
DEFECTIVE SECTION REMOVED. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, March 12. The defective section of the telephone cable between the North and South Islands was located to-day by the Janie Sedclon. About 500 yards of cable were taken aboard the vessel, the cut ends being buoyed. The old cable was brought here and a fresh section taken aboard. It was found that the protection on the under side of the cable was completely worn through. The Janie Seddon will leave port tomorrow morning to splice the new section to the buoyed ends. It is expected to complete the work in the afternoon.
