FIFTY YEARS SYNE. (From the "Guardian" March 13,1883). Ashburton Club—At a meeting held last night it was resolved to form a Club, in Ashburton. From present indicatioiris the affair promises to be a great success nearly forty persons having already given in their names as members while probably a much larger number will yet join. Newspapers and periodicals will as soon as possible be obtained as well as chess, draughts, cards dominoes and the like. A start will be made on the receipt of the charter from the Colonial Secretary, necessary under the. Licensing Act. The intention at present is to carry on the club for three months and if it proves successful as there is no doubt it will, it 'will be established as a permanent concern. Big Plums—P/articu(lars concerning Mr G. St. Hill's plums have travelled a pace and Oamaru, not to be outdone even in the matter of plums unearthed half-a-dozen grown in that district which so we are told by a local paper turn the scales at 24 ounces. Oamaru never consents to take a back seat. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO. , (From the "Guardian" March 13,1910.) Ashburton A. and P. Association — The thirty-second annual meeting of the Ashburton A. and P. Association was held on Saturday afternoon. Mr T. Mawson (president) occupied the chair and there was an attendance of about 60 members. The election, of officers and general committee for the ensuing year, which was decided by the popular vote ofi members, was announced as follows: President, Mr D. Wood (unopposed); vice-president, Mr George Mcßae (Ashburton); committee, Messrs G. W. Body (Ashburton), W. Anderson (Fairfield), John Stringfellow (Chertsey) A.
