AMERICAN 500-MILE EVENT. NEW YORK, May 30. William Cummings, of Indianapolis, won the 500 miles automobile _ race, covering the distance in 286 minutes 5) seconds, averaging 104.868 miles an hour. He eclipsed the 1933 record of
104.162. Thirty-throe cars but a large numben were forced out. There were 135,000 spectators. There were no serious accidents.
