SILVER SEIZED.
SHIP'S STEWARD FINED £25. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, May 30. Detective W. Ritchie last night seized £132 in silver coins from a steward on the Monowai some hours before the vessel left for Auckland. The steward was arrested and charged to-day with attempting to export it without a permit.
During the hearing of the case, a. suggestion was made that the stewards and others on the vessel were being used by parties, and were not the principals. In fining the accused £25, the Magistrate, Mr E. Page, remarked on this, and said that a fine would not meet the case of a principal. The silver was automatically confiscated.
