FISHING LICENSES FOR YOUTHS.

ASHBURTON SOCIETY'S SUGGESTIONS.

The council of the Ashburton Acclimatisation Society met on Tuesday evening, Mr A. O. Pilbrow presiding. Mr Pilbrow was re-elected chairman of the council. The Marine Department advisedthat it had received a proposal from the Southland Society that the fishing regulations be amended to provide for a 10s fishing license fee for youths from 16 to 20 years of age. It was resolved to reply that the society was in favour oi ; some concession, and to suggest the following scale of fees:—Under 16 years, .ss; 16 to 18 years, 10s; 18 years and over, £l. The chairman reported that the boxes had been erected in the society's hatchery, but on account of the amount of water in the Ashburton River it was impossible to put in the traps. It was decided to write to the South Canterbury Society in an endeavour to arrange for permission to obtain ova from it should the local traps fail. It was decided to adopt the following recommendations from the anftual meeting:—That the Ashburton River from the traffic bridge to Cairns s crossing be reserved for artificial fly fishing-only; that the issue of permits to torch for eels be discontinued. . . „, . The Department of Internal Affairs advised that it had declared an open season for opossums from June 1 to August 1. „. ... The secretary (Mr J. B.
