COLLISION AT SEA.
MISHAP IN MANOEUVRES.
AIRSHIP’S FIGHTING- QUALITIES. * WASHINGTON, May 9. The Navy Department announced today that the light cruiser Milwaukee and the destroyer Simpson collided on Monday night while manoeuvring with the battle fleet in. the Caribbean Sea. No casualties were reported. The Simpson is proceeding to port under her own steam. The extent of the damage to the Milwaukee is not known. The failure of the dirigible Macon to prove her efficiency in war games is lalso admitted. It was “destroyed” by .“enemy” aircraft, in spite of a squadron of protecting aeroplanes.
The result of the test is considered To be significant as the Navy Department is withholding a request for appropriations for other dirigibles until the fighting qualities of the Macon, have been proved.
