BUYING BY SOVIET
WHEAT FOR VLADIVOSTOCK. AUSTRALIAN AND ARGENTINE. MORE PURCHASES LIKELY. SHORT CROPS AND ARMY NEEDS. (United Press Association—Copyright). (Received This Day, 12.40 p.m.) LONDON, May 29. The “Daily Telegraph” says that the Soviet organisation in London is buying Australian and Argentine wheat for shipment to. Vladivostoclc. Two Australian and one Argentine cargoes, totalling 22,500 tons, have been 'bought / and a ship chartered for them. Farther buying is expected.
Russia’s sudden appearance as a buyer is believed to he due to widespread failures of the crops, also that it is probable that the consumption of wheat in the Vladivostock area has abnormally increased / owing to the maintenance of - troops there because of the Russo-Japanese tension.

The Moscow correspondent of the■ “Telegraph” says that a decree announcing a general rise in the price of bread admits, for the first time, that a severe drought spoilt part y of the crop in the southern grain belt.
