THE WEATHER.
’ FROST OF 9.5 DEGREES. A very white frost this morning was followed by a brilliant day in Ashburton, the sun shining in a clear sky. The frost was of 9.5 degrees intensity, according to readings taken at the Domain weather station. There was ice on still water. The minimum temperature last night was the lowest this winter, the figure being 25.4 degrees. Yesterday’s maximum reading was 49.3 degrees and extremes on Monday were 48.3 degrees and 27.3 degrees. The barometer has shewn little variation during the past day or two. The reading at 9 a.m. to-day was 30.27 inches, compared with 30.31 inches yesterday morning and 30.29 on Monday.
TO-DAY’S FORECAST.
(Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government _ at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather:— General inference: An intense anticyclone still covers New Zealand 1 , but the cyclone centred yesterday off the coast of New South Wales is moving slowly eastward. The forecast fc. the east coast of the South Island irom Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows: —
Light, variable winds, but tending north-easterly and gradually freshening. Weather fine at first, but clouding over and becoming unsettled after about 24 hours. Seas moderate.
