WOMEN'S MATCHES.

THE ASHBURTON COMPETITIONS. The Ashburton Women's Hockey Association's competitions were continued on Saturday under fine weathei conditions. Senior Grade. A eood, fast game resulted between Timvild and Baring. Square at Ashburton, Tinwald winning by thiee to one. Both teams combined fetter than formerly, .but Tinwald gained the advantage in the circle. Spectators were treated to a good exhibition of the game. For Tinwald, 1 Gudsell obtained two goals and K. Chapman shot one while D Fowke scored for Baring Square. Mr A. L. McHarJy was the referee The Springburn and High school teams which played at Ashburton were Evenly matched, the game resulting m a draw with one goal, to the credit of each team. M. Sullivan scored foi Spring-burn .and P. Brand shot the goal for High School. Mi E. M. Gabites was the referee. Old Girls defeated Kereone at Ka-

kaia by 6 goals to 2, the game being more even than the score would indicate. The scorers for Old Girls Were M. Carson (2), F. Sparrow (2)-, B. Brand and R. Martin, while for Kereone W. O'Reilly secured both goals. Mr ,E. Davidson refereed the game. The Methyen v. Lowcliffe match was postponed. junior Grade. Hinds defeated High School by four o-oals to nil in a match played at Hinds.' The goals were shot by M. Donaldson (2), J. Sim and B. Lane. Mrs Hampton was the referee. The game between Methven and Mount Somers resulted in a victory for Methven by five goals to one. Kara Smith shot three goals and Joy Ueeve two for Methven, while D. Glasson scored for Mount Somers. Miss E. Cleeve was the referee.

MEN'S MATCHES. A further set of matches in the MidCanterbury Men's Hockey Sub-Asso-ciation's competitions was played on Saturday, when the grounds were in good order. There was a large attencianin a very fast game, Ashburton beat Baring Square by four goals to two The teams were evenly matched during the first spell, but in the second halt, Ashburton showed better combination and added another two goals. Ash burton's goals were shot by H. H Pearce who obtained two and N. .Willis and W Ford one «ach. For Baring Square, W' Corbett and G. Kelly obtained one <roal each. The referees were Messrs J Wvbe and A. G. McHardy "A draw was the result of the match between St. Andrew's and St Stephen's, each side scoring four goak, in an even contest. Messrs S. W. Gower and E. M. Gabites were the referees.
