LITTLE'S AMAZING WIN OF TITLE

EVERY RECORD BROKEN

LONDON May 26. - W. Lawson Little (U.S.) won the British amateur golf championship, at Prestwiek, beating J. Wallace (Scotland) 14 up and 13 to play. Little s margin was unprecedented in the championship. He played really wonderful golf and was ten times under four in 23 holes. "What could I do against that?" ruefully asked Wallace.

\ Little was 12 up at the end of the morning round and went further ahead in the afternoon match, which terminated at the 23rd. "All Little's shot were as sure as death. He played petrifying golf," writes the golfing correspondent of the "Star." Examples of Little's phenomenal performances were seen when he hit two immense 'shots to the Cardinal Green, which is -505 yards from the tee, and' holed his put for an eagle three, one of the very few threes recorded for this hole. His tremendous hitting and wonderful putting demoralised Wallace. When the Scot played a good shot the American played an infinitely better one. Wallace lost his stance and could not drive, and was repeatedly bunkered. He cracked up so badly that he missed a yard putt, losing the w l2th in the morning round, when Little was bunkered.

Little broke not only all the records for the course and the championship, but also for a golf championship anywhere. Perfect, windless, summer weather favoured the play, but no external factor can possibly minimise the brilliance of his performance, which recalled that of Bobby Jones at his best. He was six up at the turn and 12 up at the end of the flist round. He won two of the five holes played in the second round, and. ended the one-sided encounter. Although he had three new putters he used an old one, and took only 36 putts for the 23 holes. - Little's score of 66 in the morning Was three strokes better than the previous record for the course, held by Macdonald-Smith. He was in only one bunker and never looked like making a mistake.e Wallace made nearly every mistake possible. The scores strokes were:— -Morning round—Out: Little 4334335 44, Wallace 535644545'. Home: Little, 4354343, Wallace 546544443. Afternoon round—Little 33433, Wallace 43443. Totals: Little 82, Wallace 98. Little caught the- liner which 'was waiting for Trim at Liverpool. When taking the cup he was cheered by a crowd of 12,000, '

PLAY IN THE SEMI-FINALS. LONDON, May 25. . Efetra police were present and barricades erected on various parts of the course to control the crowds at the Prestwiek golf links to-day, but there were long delays while spectators were cleared from the fairways. The sixth round matches resulted as expected, but the semi-finals provided thrilling play, Wallace reaching the final by defeating the American amateur champion, Dunlap. Earlier in the week nobody dreamed or reckoning Wallace as a finalist, but en route he defeated five 1934 Walker Cup players, namely, Tolley, Egan, Fiddian, McLean and Dunlap. The match was followed by 10,000 spectators. Outwards Dunlap. was the better putter and turned one up 35 to 36. Homewards Wallace putted extraordinarily well and led for the first time at the fourteenth. He halved the fifteenth and sixteenth. Then ho holed from seven yards for a glorious victory and finished in three under fours. His total for the seventeen holes was 65. ' Little and Garnett had a keen fight, both driving terrific lengths. They turned all square 37 each. Little was one up at the seventeenth. The excitement was intense as Garnett won the eighteenth after a brilliant recovery from a deep bunker hole, holing a 10-yard putt, but the strain told at the nineteenth, where Garnett took three putts. . Wallace told a representative of the "Daily Mail": "I cannot afford to travel to play in competitions. 1 have waited, banking everything on the day when the amateur champion would borne to Prestwiek. It is now or never. I gave up a week's casual work in order I never had a golf lesson. Dunlap said: "Wallace's golf was some of the greatest I have seen " The liner Laconia has been delayed at Liverpool to enable Little to play in the final.

QUEENSLAND TITLE. \ BRISBNAE, May 27. The Queensland foursome golf championship was won by J. Femer and T. Healy with a total of 158.
