In the cricket match against Australia, Hampshire continued their innings at Southampton! in fine weather on a good wicket. With the addition of 19 runs tho last wicket fell, the score being 420. Vigorous hatting by Lord Tennyson was the feature of the closing stages of the Hampshire innings, which lasted for 345 'minutes. Lord Tennyson batted for 95 minutes, and hit ten fours. Chipperfield bowled well to-day, spinning both ways. A large crowd, in brilliant weather, saw a sensational start to Australia's first innings. Woodfull tapped tho amateur fast bowler, Baring, for a single, and then, in the first oyer, Brown was caught behind the wickets.

Kennedy bowled a maiden to Woodfull, and then Baring, keeping an excellent length, got Bradman's wicket, Mead holding a good catch at first slip. This is Bradman's second "duck" ol ,tli3 tour. He returned to the pavilion grinning broadly. The amazed crowd was still murmuring with excitement when McCabe joined Woodfull. The third wicket fell at 10, within 25 minutes of the opening. ChippeFfield and Oldfield saved a foliow-on r then Chipperfield began driving, powerfully hitting a. six oft Boyes. The partnership was worth 79 beforo Oldfield was bowled. Chipperfield, cutting and driving with complete disdain for all the bowlers, raced toward his century.

O'Reilly hit Bo'yes for two successive sixers, raising 400 after 280 minU Chipperfield's splendid 100 had taken only 95 minutes. The ninth wicket added GB, then Hampshire's total was passed.
