AUSTRALIA'S DEFENCE
UNITS IN THE COUNTRY,
VOLUNTARY ENLISTMENT
(United Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 9.25 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day.
The defence necessities of Australia loomed large lately in the public eye. Mr W. M. Hughes has been prominent in speaking and organising the Citizens Defence- League to arouse the people to a proper appreciation of the danger in the event of an international blaze developing. The military authorities favour a voluntary scheme as opposed to a compulsory one. Country units formed under the compulsory system, which was dropped by the Scullin Government in 1029, are being revived on a voluntary basis. Men are enlisting readily and are preparing for a term's training with the existing city forces
