The Mauretania, despite the fact that she is 28 years old and has travelled 3,000,000 miles, is secretly training to win hack the Atlantic record. She lias done 31* knots, compared with the Italian Rexs’ 29.92 knots.
The Mauretania established a record in 1909 of 4 days 10 hours 41 minutes from Queenstown (Ireland) to New York and in 1924 of 5 days 1 hour 49 minutes from New \<>rk to Cherbourg. She lost the first-mentioned record in 1929 to the Bremen, which in turn was deposed by the Europa, with a passage of 4 days 17 hours 6 minutes.
