BOMB EXPLODED

ALARM FOR THE POLICE.

TROUBLE NEAR THE STATION. AN INCIDENT AT GREYMOUTH. (Por Press Association). GREYMOUTH, October 28. Coincident with the announcement to-day of £2OO reward in connection with the recent bomb explosion at the residence of Police Inspector Lopdell, there was this evening another explosion, presumably a similar missile. The scene this time, however, was the police station itself. About 9.5 p.m. a loud report was heard over a considerable area, hut, strange to relate, no indication was subsequently obtainable as to the exact spot where the explosion happened. A smell of explosive was noticed in the vicinity of the station the windows of which were shaken but no sign of damage was discernible when the police searched. Presumably the explosive went off in the air before landing. It must have been within twenty yards of the building.

IN BOROUGH COUNCIL'S SHED. BOTTOM OP DRAY BLOWN OUT. GREYMOUTH, This Day. Inquiries into the explosion show that it took place in the Borough Council’s open shed, used for storing drays, over 100 yards from the police station. The explosive is believed to have been placed in the dray, the bottom being blown out, but the shed being undamaged. A horse in the shed was not injured. District opinion is that the explosion was intended as a joke, perhaps to influence the police.
