CHERTSEY. The monthly meeting of the Chcrtsey AVomen’s Institute was held in the Chertsey Hal] on Thursday, Airs H. It. Wilkinson (president) presiding over an attendance of about 50. Eight new members were welcomed. A motion of sympathy was passed to Alesdames J. Doig, AV. Hood and A. Doig in their recent bereavement. A most instructive demonstration on “First Aid to the Injured” was given by Airs H. Bmallbone and Aliss AVatson, of Ashburton, who were accorded a hearty vote of thanks on the motion of Airs J. Lambie. A competition for potatoes grown from Government certified seed was held, when Airs H. R. Wilkinson gained highest weight with 251 b, Airs Copland second with 181 b, and Mrs P. Doig third with 171 b. The competition for programmes was won by Aliss E. Alagson 1, and Aliss I. Hood 2. It was decided to have a senior vice-president in the person of Airs J. Lambie. It was reported that Charity Day proved a great success, large numbers of goods being sent in lor rebel, it was proposed to ask Aliss Bacon to demonstrate glove-making and bagmaking. 'lt was also reported that- a play-reading circle in connection with the AVomen’s Institute had been inaugurated, the first meeting to he held at Mrs AVilkinson’s. The hostesses lor the afternoon were Alesdames H. K. Wilkinson, AV. Cain and Misses D. Campbell and A. Lemon. A vote of thanks was passed to the hostesses.

RAKAIA. Air A. Osborn, who has- been on the staff of the Rakaia Post Office for the past 18 months, has left for Owaka, in the Catlins River district, Otagoi; on promotioni. Before leaving, Air Browne, postmaster, on behalf of the members of the staff, presented Air Osborn with a fountain pen. Mr A\ 7 . Jameson, of Raurimu, who succeeds All* Osborn, has taken.up his duties.
