The annual report of ' the Empire Marketing Board draws attention to the record imports by Britain of several foodstuffs from the Dominions, Notable among the items are the following : —■’ From Australia. cwts. Raisins and sultanas ... ~20,000 Currants 240,000 Sugar ... ••• ••• 1,802,000 Eggs (dozens) 3,780,000 From New Zealand. cwts. Butter 1,802,000 Cheese 1,313,000 Frozen pork ‘ 169,000 Eggs (dozens) ... ••• 220,000 The report adds that the Board is encouraged by the experience of the past year. There has again been an appreciable quickening of interest m the theme of Empire buying among the men and women of • the United Kingdom. BRITAIN’S FISCAL POLICY. EFFECT ON POLITICAL PARTIES. LONDON, May 31. The political writers of the “Daily Chronicle’’ and the “Daily Herald, affirm the report that several Conservative members of the House o Commons are resigning their seats tor the purpose of recontesting them as Empire Free Traders, and thus challenging Mr Baldwin’s leadership.
